Abstract
One of the long-standing customs among Shiites is the moving of the deceased to holy shrines for burial. From a jurisprudential perspective, the supreme principle in question is that moving the deceased to holy shrines should be discouraged, particularly in light of the emphasis on expediting the funeral process. However, the consensus opinions of jurists generally and some evidence contradict this principle. The primary focus of this article is the extent of acceptability of transferring the deceased to holy shrines subject to certain limitations (e.g., when it necessitates dismembering the deceased’s organs, corrupts the deceased, or needs exhumation). The research findings, presented based on library and software, show that the aforementioned guideline is not applicable and should not be followed in situations when the transfer of the deceased necessitates their dismemberment or corruption. However, it is permissible to claim respectability while digging a dead body in order to move it to holy shrines, provided that the exhumation does not result in the body’s decay or the stench that can bother Muslims.
