Abstract
Jurists hold that wuquf in Arafat is one of the cornerstones of the Hajj rituals, and that abandoning it invalidates the Hajj if it is combined with leaving wuquf in Mash’ar al-Haram. Divergent views exist among jurists on the duration of the duty to stand in Arafat. According to popular opinion, the time of wuquf in Arafat lasts from the waning of the ninth day to the Sharia-based sunset of the same day. Some jurists consider it appropriate to delay wuquf in Arafat even after the wane. However, a different school of jurists believes that the complete performance of wuquf in Arafat is adequate. In addition, the normative and positive rulings must be investigated in the event that there is a flaw in wuquf. Divergent opinions have also been voiced on the definition of wuquf. There are discussions concerning the mandatory duration of the optional wuquf in Arafat among jurists throughout this descriptive-analytical study that looks at the lexical meaning of certain words. Additionally, it is clear from the narrations that the Hajj is acceptable in the event of a disruption in wuquf if it is done completely, even though certain circumstances suppose that a sin has been committed and expiation payment is required
